Experience Requirements

Registered Appraiser Assistant

No previous experience is required to register as an Appraiser Assistant. However, in order to gain experience credit for licensure/certification, an appraiser assistant must have a supervising appraiser and register with the Board. Experience gained prior to registration will not be accepted.

State Licensed Appraiser

2,000 hours over a minimum period of twelve months. Experience must be in conformance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.

State Certified Residential Appraiser

2,500 hours over a minimum period of twenty-four months. Experience must be in conformance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.

State Certified General Appraiser

3,000 hours (including at least 1,500 hours of non-residential appraisal experience) over a minimum period of thirty months. Experience must be in conformance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.

Experience Log

An experience log documenting acceptable appraisal experience is required for all license applications. The work product claimed for experience credit must conform with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and be verifiable.

Any experience credit approved by the Board will not exceed the maximum credits allowed under OAR 161-010-0025.
